Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan tindak tutur dan kemungkinan tujuannya yang dilakukan oleh dua karakter utama, yaitu Judy Hopps dan Nick Wilde dalam film Zootopia. Metode kualitatif digunakan untuk menjelaskan fungsi tindak tutur yang dilakukan oleh para tokoh. Teori Searle digunakan sebagai teori utama untuk menjawab dua rumusan masalah mengenai klasifikasi tindak tutur dan tujuan mereka menggunakan tindak tutur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua tindak tutur digunakan oleh Hopps. Di sisi lain, Wilde hanya menggunakan setengah dari klasifikasi tindak tutur, yaitu direktif, ekspresif, dan komisif. Sedangkan tujuan penggunaan tindak tutur adalah untuk menceritakan apa yang diyakininya (assertives), untuk meminta seseorang melakukan sesuatu (directives), untuk mengungkapkan perasaan (expressive), untuk berjanji (commissives), dan untuk membawa perubahan (declarations).
